The company was started in 1996 by Lisa Smith under the name Captions Custom Embroidery, and was primarily doing custom embroidery for hats. Lisa’s vision was to partner with her clients to combine placement, style and size in just the right way to inspire a personalized piece of art that would be uniquely them. The distinctive quality of her work caught the attention of prominent New York designers and department stores, and demand skyrocketed.
